- WRITER'S COMPANION
-
- General Information
-
-
-
- I've been a full-time writer for many years, some books and too
- many magazines articles to want to think about. It seems that all writers, at
- one time or another, get into a rut. The mind refuses to think.
-
- I offer this program as a means to prod the mind to further effort.
- Don't take the suggestions too literally, although that's O.K. too. Let
- the suggested subjects give you fresh avenues to explore. You know how it
- is, one thought leads to another.
-
- The suggested markets may have changed by the time you read this.
- Magazines go in and out of business faster than the credits can roll on a
- late night movie. The Publisher File will allow you to compile your own up-
- to-the-minute information on publishers which use your type of material.
-
- The Accounting File is bookkeeping at its simplest, and applies just to
- writing endeavors. It does the job for me, but if you need a full
- accounting system, there are far more sophisticated programs out there in
- Shareware.
-
- The Submissions Tracker will help you to keep track of proposals and over
- the transom submissions. It will keep check on the number of days that
- elapse before you receive a reply and give you an overdue warning at 60 days.
- Sufficient time, I think, for a publisher to give you notification of
- receipt. When contemplating a new submission, you may want to give
- preference to those who reply promptly.
-
- The Research File will allow you to make a note of the source of
- information. When you need to refer back to a source, back issues of
- magazines can be requested from your public library. If, like me, you file
- newspaper clippings, the program will help you to find material quickly.
-
- I sincerely hope you find Writer's Companion useful, but please register..
